1.            Call to Order

 

                Mayor O’Leary called the regular meeting of the City Council to order at 7:00 PM on Monday, June 9, 2026.

 

                Christy Wilcox, City Clerk administered the Oath of Office to Claire Noble. 

 

               

2.            Roll Call

 

                Present:               Mayor O’Leary

Councilmembers Tom Hendrickson, Mike Hovey, Shannon Nelson, and Claire Noble

4.            Approval of Agenda

 

Mayor O’Leary asked if there were any additions or corrections to the agenda.   Councilmember Nelson requested to add item #9c – discussion on airport noise complaints.

               

                Moved by Councilmember Hendrickson to adopt the agenda, as amended, seconded by Councilmember Hovey.  Motion carried (5-0).

 

5.            Consent Agenda

 

                Moved by Councilmember Nelson to approve the consent agenda as follows, seconded by Councilmember Hendrickson.   Motion carried (5-0).

 

a)       Approve regular  meeting minutes of May 12, 2026

b)      List of Bills

c)       Monthly Financial Statements

d)      Building Permit Report

e)      City Forester Report

f)        Public Safety Report

9.            New Business

 

a.       Discussion on Harmon Park

 

Mayor O’Leary opened the meeting to the public for comments.  The following citizens spoke in favor of keeping Harmon Park as it is today and not selling the land for development:

·         Jim Stowell

·         Jeff Vierzba

·         John and Frances Lamey

 

Moved by Councilmember Hovey to not more forward with selling of the land at Harmon Park for future development, seconded by Councilmember Nelson.  Motion carried (5-0).

 

Moved by Mayor O’Leary to authorize the City Forester to obtain quotes to clear out the trail in Harmon Park to be completed this year at a cost not to exceed $5,000 and obtain a quote for annual maintenance of the park, seconded by Councilmember Hovey.  Motion carried (5-0).

  

b.       License Agreement between the City of Sunfish Lake and Metro Bowhunters Resource Base

 

Moved by Councilmember Hendrickson to approve the license agreement between the City of Sunfish Lake and Metro Bowhunters Resource Base, Inc. for Deer Hunting Seasons in 2026-2028, seconded by Councilmember Hovey.  Motion carried (5-0).

 

  

c.       Airport Noise Issues

 

Councilmember Nelson received  complaints about airport noise and asked if representatives from MSP Commission could provide a brief update.  Mayor O’Leary discussed the RNAV procedures and noted that a meeting might be difficult to get scheduled.  However, the MSP does offer quarterly Listening Sessions for residents to receive updates on the MSP Noise Oversight Committee and its activities and allow for an opportunity to provide comments and voice concerns on aircraft noise issues.

                Mayor O’Leary adjourned the meeting at 8:20 p.m.
