Highway 110 Construction Project

Details for upcoming project work

The two intersections crews planned to pave overnight last night, Tue, July 25 have been rescheduled due to rain. Crews will pave the intersections tonight, July 26 beginning at 9 p.m. The work is scheduled to be complete by 6 a.m. tomorrow, July 27. The following intersections will be impacted as follows during this time frame:

  • The intersection of Delaware Ave. and Hwy 110 will be open during the paving operation with assistance from the State Patrol. The State Patrol will help move traffic through the intersection safely as the paving machines are operating, there may be some delays.
  • The intersection of Dodd Rd. and Hwy 110 will be closed during the paving operation.

Paving along eastbound Hwy 110 will continue on schedule (weather permitting) through the rest of this week as follows:

  • Beginning Wed, July 26, the contractor will begin paving the first lift of pavement for eastbound Hwy 110 starting on the left lane and shoulder by I-35E and continue along the entire length of the project area. Then on Thu, July 27, the contractor plans to move to the right lane and shoulder.
  • Beginning Fri, July 28, the second lift of pavement will be applied to the right lane and shoulder of eastbound Hwy 110 by I-35E and continue along the entire length of the project area. Then on Sat, July 29, the contractor will move to the left lane and shoulder of eastbound Hwy 110.

Note: There may be short delays at intersections as paving machines move through. We appreciate your patience.

Once the paving operations are complete, crews will apply the striping and shouldering next week. When this work is complete, eastbound Hwy 110 will be ready to open and crews will begin to close westbound Hwy 110 between I-494 and I-35E to begin work. This is tentatively scheduled from Sun, Aug. 6 to Mon, Aug. 7.

Reminder

As of June 12, the contractor is utilizing nighttime hours (9 p.m.-5 a.m.). This work may include: removals, excavation/grading, installation/removal of shoring, and installation of a box culvert under Hwy 110. These nighttime activities are expected to continue through mid-September.

This one-construction season project is expected to run though the fall of 2017. During that time, there will be pavement, signing and drainage improvements along with construction of a Dakota County pedestrian underpass.

HWY 110 Project

You may have seen the signs that were installed earlier in the week—I want to give you an update on what is to be expected the first few weeks before the Hwy 110 eastbound directional closure begins on June 12.


In order to complete the project as quickly as possible, eastbound Hwy 110 will be reduced to one lane where work is occurring and will move locations throughout the upcoming weeks between Lexington Ave. and I-494.


The closure and detour of eastbound Hwy 110 is expected to begin June 12, 2017 (weather permitting). This means all eastbound traffic will be detoured to I-35E, EB I-494, NB Hwy 3 back to Hwy 110. Westbound traffic will be utilizing their usual lanes. The eastbound side of the highway will open about half way through the work around July 24, and westbound Hwy 110 will be closed and detoured at that time.


The north and southbound movements at both Delaware Ave and Dodd Rd/149 will remain accessible throughout the project except for a brief overnight duration when paving occurs this date has not yet been determined.

Please be attentive, drive with caution, slowdown in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.

Award Winning Chili Recipe

This is the chili recipe that has won the Chili Bake Off at the Halloween Hayride two years in a row. Thanks to Liz and Dan Lee for divulging their secret ingredients, because now you can make this chili at home. ENJOY!!

 

Carne Adovada
¼ cup raisins
½ cup brewed coffee
1 (4 to 5 lb) boneless pork shoulder roast, cut in 1-1/2 inch chunks
Salt and Pepper
1 Tablespoon vegetable oil
2 onions, chopped
¼ cup all-purpose flour
½ cup chili powder
1 tsp. dried oregano
1 Tablespoon minced canned chipotle chili in adobo sauce
6 garlic cloves, minced
2-1/2 cups low sodium chicken broth
1 tsp. grated lime zest
1 Tablespoon fresh lime juice
¼ cup chopped fresh cilantro

1.  Heat oven to 350
2.  Combine raisins and coffee in a bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Microwave until liquid boils, about a minute, let stand.
3.  Season pork with salt and pepper. Heat oil in Dutch oven and brown pork in batches. Transfer browed pork to a plate.
4.  Add onion to fat and cook until softened. Add flour, chili powder, oregano, chipotle, and garlic and cook until fragrant, about a minute. Add broth and raisin mixture, and bring to a boil. Transfer the mixture to a blender and blend until smooth. Return sauce to pot.
5.  Add browned pork to sauce in Dutch oven and transfer to oven. Cover and cook until pork is tender, about 2 hours. Stir in lime zest and juice and cilantro. Chili can be stored for up to 3 days. Serve with tortillas and sour cream.

**This is the recipe as published. I doubled the canned chipotle chili amount to spice it up, then added 3 diced, raw potatoes and 1-1/2 cups water when I put it in the over because I was afraid it would be too spicy!
